Isaiah 65:17
Scripture Explained · Pairs with New Beginnings
“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
Isaiah 65:17 · World English Bible
What it meant then
Anyone reaching this verse at the close of Isaiah, after chapters weighing both judgment and the promise of restoration, would have carried the weight of everything the book had already put them through: exile, loss, generations of waiting. This verse answers all of it with something final, a new creation so complete that the griefs of the old one stop coming to mind at all.
“Will not be remembered” describes grief that has finally finished its work. The griefs of the old world lose their grip on the people who lived through them. Centuries later, Revelation 21:1 quotes this verse almost directly, carrying the same hope forward.
